The origins of A B C
We see it every day on signs, billboards, packaging, in books and magazines; in fact, you are looking at it now — the Latin or Roman alphabet, the world’s most prolific, most widespread abc. Typography is a relatively recent invention, but to unearth the origins of alphabets, we will need to travel much farther back in time, to an era contemporaneous with the emergence of (agricultural) civilisation itself.

Let’s start by defining our terms (Slides 1 through 20). Here are a few conventional ways to differentiate between art and science when it comes to user experience design: In terms of focus, an artistic process is concerned with issues of look-and-feel, whereas a scientific approach focuses on deeper, more systematic issues like underlying architecture.

For the past two months, i was thinking about writing a blog. Didn’t happen because I was busy with my projects.
This article is not for the GREAT designers but the BEST designers who started their career. I just want to share one main problem they face, “compare the Designs with other designs“. yah.. thats the thing. This thing happens mostly when you work under a boss who is not a designer, who doesn’t know the creative emotional pain. But my advice is ,Don’t worry about that. we know we are creative and we do cool designs like other designers. Everybody has their own design style and there is no machine to measure creativity. when we don’t like any art form that doesn’t mean its bad. its good for some people. GREAT things happen when u get a freedom to work and get a chance to take a risk.
i would like to share some experience which i got in my career. When i started my career i was working under an art director who has completed his diploma from NID. He taught me so many things and given a best base for my design career. But he never allowed his designers to experiment the designs. I was really disappointed. i wanted to use more colors and love typography. He only loves blue color and FUTURA font. What to do
. After some days, I got an idea. I started completing the work within minutes because its easy. And started working on other personal design experiments (wallpapers and funky things) and send to ma friends. Their comments and feedback inspired me a lot to do. so I started a new way of working. I keep convincing my boss with his taste and did experiments my own..
Thats it.
After some years, i joined another MNC. They are in to Web designing. They are getting works from middle east and europe. i was in the creative team. One day, our boss came up with a web design prototype and he started praising the work. we didn’t see any thing extra ordinary on that. it was not a trendy design
he said this is awesome and we follow it. What to do. I will tell u guys, the GREAT designer took 8 months for a simple website. He designed it in Corel draw… Hooops… He made 8 updated design versions for the website. Where we could fix it in max 3 versions. But our boss was saying he is amazing and all bla bla.. Am not underestimating the designer who did it. He is Good and experienced that doesn’t mean others doing bad design/job. Am talking about the mentality of people (Boss) Who blindly believe in, compare and forcing others to follow him without knowing whats on the market.
Am about to conclude this Article. When you introduce yourself, just tell about the work and the clients you work with. Others always estimate you only when u have good portfolio and good client list. I was not aware about this in my career. Now i have the privilege (Am lucky? ) to say that i worked with 2adpro Media Solutions Inc. which is working with mcClatchy (The third largest newspaper company in the US) interactive, HP and so many great clients.
So what am trying to say in this article is don’t underestimate yourself with others comments. Always improve your design skills and experiment your own style.
Thanks for reading. Please share your experience. It will be inspire others.
